CJOYC Launches New City-Wide Youth Newsletter: YOUTH CHATTER!
A youth focused bulletin that will put a spotlight on what youth are doing in our city, their ideas and opinions, and providing information on events and opportunities for young people.
Youth Chatter was recently launched at the Youth Commission's Meet and Greet Reception for Mayor Larry O'Brien and City Councilors.

Support the Youth Voice for the 2010 City of Ottawa Draft Budget!
The Ottawa Youth Commission has reviewed the 2010 Draft Budget and has identified some issues for Council members to consider.
Staff are recommending changes to bus routes, increases to bus fares and increasing program fees in recreation. As representatives of the youth voice and members of the Ottawa community, we would like to have an effect on the decisions made during these deliberations.
City Council is now hearing from residents on the Draft Budget; public delegations will be presenting to Committee as a Whole all week long. Read the CJOYC response to the 2010 Draft Budget. If you agree with our concerns, let your City Councilor know! Copy our letter or attach it in an e-mail to your Councilor.

Ottawa Youth Commission Presentation at City Hall!
The Ottawa Youth Commission had our annual presentation to City Council’s Community Protective Services Committee on Thursday, December 3rd.
CJOYC members presented our annual report to Committee and received an overwhelming amount of support for our recommendations. We will be working with City staff and checking in with Councilors to ensure our recommendations are implemented.
The Youth Friendly Workshop: How to Engage Youth in the Workplace
The Youth Commission is co-hosting a workshop for organizations on how to better engage young people in the workplace. It's for people who want to work with youth but don't know where to start. Workshop leaders will go through the hands-on interactive youth friendly guide, expanding on the various sections and covering such topics as:
- What does youth engagement mean?
- Why Outreach is a dirty word.
- Using technology to reach youth.
- Finding the fun: Effective meetings, accessible documents, and breaks.
- Youth in Decision Making: how to make it work.
We're looking for youth to attend and lend their voice to help organizations better understand how to include young people in their work!
